Seeking Truth

What lies are in your life that need to be torn down? What will yearn them down?

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 - For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

Where are the strongholds that tell these lies? Imaginations and exalted things that take the place of God? The Greek word translated into imaginations, refers to “logical thinking.” Men especially like to be logical.

We need to keep our thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ.

Thinking of God in light of human reasoning (He is omnipotent, omnipresent, and has always existed), He just doesn’t fit in our way of understanding. We need to cast out logic sometimes as it leads us away from the spiritual. Current scientific beliefs are limited to the natural world, so how can we fully understand God in this way when He is spiritual?

Exercise caution in our thoughts. Do our thought lead us away from God, or toward Him?

Genesis 3:6,7 - So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

Erring in thinking will lead you astray.

Genesis 6:5 - Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Humans have the ability to imagine themselves into evil. These thoughts not only lead us away from God, but directly as an affront to His plans for our lives.

What in your mind is exalting itself against the knowledge or the Word of God? Whatever it is it’s vain. The high places in the biblical history are just like the high places we put things in our minds. We exalt them above God.

Do you believe the Word of God is true? Many passages in the Bible our reasoning would disagree with. We choose to believe even when some things are difficult to understand. We want proof, but we also have to live by faith.

The Word of God is our offensive weapon.

Hebrews 4:12,13 - For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

The Word is alive. It can bring change. Read it, study it, absorb it, and it will change you… bring you to life, back to life.

Isaiah 55:8-11 - For My thoughts are not your thoughts,

Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth,

So are My ways higher than your ways,

And My thoughts than your thoughts.

“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,

And do not return there,

But water the earth,

And make it bring forth and bud,

That it may give seed to the sower

And bread to the eater,

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;

It shall not return to Me void,

But it shall accomplish what I please,

And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Ephesians 4: - let us measure up to the stature of Christ.

Let us be saturated and permeated with the truths of God. We can start to think like God and that will get us in line. His Word has the power to change us and bring us under his blessings.

John 17:17 - Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

God’s Word is truth. So, focus on the truth… it is the only thing that can set us free. Focusing on the beliefs of the world will leave us empty because a lot of it is false.

John 16:33 - These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

We can live without fear because Jesus has overcome the things of the world.

If you take the lies out of the world, you get the Word. (The letter L stands for lies… take it out and you have truth.)

When you know the truth you can recognize the lies. In Christ you will have peace. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. (John 1:1)

Matthew 4 - Jesus was tempted.

Philippians 4:19 - God shall supply all my needs.

Sometimes we fall into the fear of logical reasoning. When we see our bank account run short, basic math says we can’t pay our bills. But God has something bigger than that… truth. He can accomplish what He wants for His children. Truth is more powerful than facts.

The fact is that we were sinners. We were bound for hell, but Christ died for us and set us free from that fact. His truth is more powerful.

2 Corinthians 2:11 - lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.

The word devices means thoughts. Let us not think on anything less than the Word of God.

2 Corinthians 4:4-7 - whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Cast Down but Unconquered

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.

Let us be on the lookout for being blind on the things of God. Let the light of Jesus shine on you. You have been redeemed spirit, soul, and body. The Gospel message is redemption. Jesus Christ in you… the hope of glory.

2 Cor. 4:15 - We have the same spirit as God and we can speak out the truths of God. Make sure you are casting down the lies of the world and focus on the truth.

The same spirit of faith we’ve been given helps us avoid the lies, and gets us in line with God’s thinking.
