Faith of the Heart

You are a spirit. You possess a soul. You live in a body.

God is Spirit. When He made man in His image, He breathed spirit into dust—ruach, the breath of life—and man became a living being. That spirit is the heart: the core of who you are, the part around which everything else revolves. Paul uses “heart” and “spirit” interchangeably in Romans 2. Without it you are done. With it, born again, you are alive to God.

Faith is not of the head. Nicodemus could not figure the new birth out with his mind; Jesus said it is of the Spirit. The natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him. They are spiritually discerned. You can have doubts in your head and still believe in your heart. That is how you know you are saved. That is how you receive any promise in this Book.

The outward man is perishing. The inward man is renewed day by day. The real you—the hidden man of the heart—presents the body as a living sacrifice and renews the mind so they agree. When heart and mind line up, one puts a thousand to flight. Stop trying to figure the supernatural out with the natural. Believe with the heart. Then go out those doors and be a supernatural person.
